Event Summary
As a San Francisco Bay Area native now based in Seattle, Sutton Marley is an up-and-coming drummer/bandleader with a passion for showcasing the musical tradition and language of jazz. After years of performing as a sideman with some of the top musicians in the Bay Area at venues such as Black Cat, Club Deluxe, Madrone Art Bar, Yoshi’s, Café Stritch, and multiple appearances at the San Jose Jazz Festival, Sutton has released his first album as a leader, Intention, which is available on all major streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Amazon). Inspired in part by the sound of guitarist Grant Green's iconic album Street of Dreams, Intention is a feel-good showing of classic standards featuring the wonderful playing of Smith Dobson (vibraphone), Adam Shulman (organ), and Jack Tone Riordan (guitar). To celebrate the album, Sutton performed an album release show at Art Boutiki Music Hall in July 2021 joined on stage by Smith Dobson, Adam Shulman, and Hristo Vitchev. Sutton is a proud endorser of Canopus Drums.
